Where did your passion for weaving come from?

I graduated from NSCAD in 2015, and originally I was majoring in ceramics. I took a weaving class, and got completely hooked. I was lucky to buy a large loom from NSCAD and that allowed me to experiment with designs and textiles.

Are you from the East Coast?

I'm originally from the north of England, and moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2009.

When did you start Craftisan?

Craftisan started as many start-ups do, by making products for friends and family. I started to make commissions and my NSCAD links allowed me into some really special shows and craft fairs. The feedback I received helped me to start Craftisan, and I am very proud to be a part of the new East Coast artisans.

How did you start your own business?

Each scarf can take over 8 hours to weave. I use local wools, my own designs and finish everything by hand, so every item is unique. Social media has been a great tool to help me expand my network and I have had some business advice from a number of well respected marketing experts.

Do you have a favourite design?

I don't but I love receiving photo's and links on my Instagram from customers who love my scarves. My latest creation is always my favourite.

Do you do commissions?

I most certainly do. Because it takes me quite a while to set up my Loom, I tend to specialize in a smaller number of designs. Colour is customizable, so is the design and shapes/length. I also produce bespoke items such as blankets, throws and table runners. Email me and I can advise:-)
